The Nigerian Government is advising its citizens against any non-urgent travel to the US until the Trump administration clarifies its immigration policy, amid a number of incidents in which Nigerian nationals with valid visas were denied entry to the US without any reason being provided by US authorities. It is reported that the visas of the individuals in question were cancelled and they were returned to Nigeria.

It is unclear why Nigerian nationals with valid visas are being denied entry to the US. Indeed, Nigeria is not subject to the new Executive Order on immigration and, in any event, the new Executive Order on immigration is not yet effective. In February 2017, the US State Department warned US citizens against travel to Nigeria, due to the presence of extremist group Boko Haram. It is unknown if the current travel difficulties experienced by Nigerian nationals are connected to security concerns in North-East Nigeria.
